Whittier Reads Presents: An Evening with Brian Fies, Author of A Fire StoryMonday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m.Central Library | Live on ZoomAs part of our Whittier Reads community reading series, the Whittier Public Library is proud to present a special virtual author talk with acclaimed graphic novelist Brian Fies.Fies will discuss his powerful graphic memoir, A Fire Story, which chronicles his family’s experience losing their home in the Northern California wildfires. Originally created and shared as a webcomic in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, the story resonated deeply with readers for its honesty, compassion, and message of resilience. The expanded graphic novel explores themes of loss, rebuilding, and the strength of community in times of crisis.Through Whittier Reads, we invite our community to come together around meaningful books and shared conversations. This special event offers readers the opportunity to hear directly from Brian Fies about his creative process, the real-life events behind the book, and the unique power of graphic storytelling to document personal and collective experiences. A live Q&A will follow the presentation.This program will be streamed live via Zoom at the Central Library and is free and open to the public.
